Only recently has it begun to fade and decay. At first, when I saw it, I couldn’t understand it. Then I found it funny. Then it became a background condition of life as I passed by numerous times. Then, as the idea of its eventual disappearance asserted itself, I found I was sad to see it go. It’s like an old friend the presence of which has become oddly reassuring, despite the fact that the content seems unbelievable.
Then again, maybe he came and went, taking no notice of the majority of us, and this is the time after time itself. You never know. Sometimes, especially in recent years, it seems possible. Or at least, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised…
